A Spring Walk

As always, I try to walk every day. Today was no exception. The morning walk was routine. I found three pennies and one was a wheat penny. The last wheat penny was minted in 1958.

The afternoon walk was most interesting. Walking down High Ridge Road next to the old Lord & Taylor building is a struggling Oak Tree.

As you can see it struggles. Every spring I wonder if it has survived the winter. It did, the leaves are budding out. It is amazing that it can survive in this location.

After that I crossed over to Washington Blvd and walked along the Rippowam River I always enjoy the Rippowam River. on the walkway. I saw a white egret. These snowbirds will be around all summer long.  It is very hard to take a picture of them.  They are very skittish.

Then I heard a splashing in the water. The picture above is what I saw. It took a few seconds to realize what was happening.

To the best of my knowledge there were two snapping turtles mating.

This was such a special moment. I love it when I am able to observe aspects of nature.  I don’t think I will ever see two snapping turtles mating again.

The joy of walking. That unexpected glimpse of life happening
